What Is Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide?

Food grade Hydrogen peroxide is a wonderful addition to many home remedies, but you should keep in mind these tips and cautions here to be on the safe side.

Hydrogen peroxide can be found on the shelf in any pharmacy or department store. It’s a clear liquid that has no odor or color, and a wide range of concentrations – from three percent to a whopping 90 percent. You’ve likely heard of hydrogen peroxide because it does such a great job as a home remedy.

Food grade hydrogen peroxide is much more concentrated then other types. This means that you will get more benefit from it when you use it for home remedies. Also known as “food grade H2O2,” this type of hydrogen peroxide is definitely something to seek out the next time you go to the store.

What Is Hydrogen Peroxide and Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide?

Hydrogen peroxide is made up of oxygen and hydrogen: two atoms of each. Thus, the name “food grade H2O2” is often assigned to the solution. When it breaks down, it forms oxygen and water. Different types of hydrogen peroxide are created for different uses. It’s a natural disinfectant, which is what it’s usually used for – however, some concentrations might be used for things you never considered, such as electrical grade.

Hydrogen peroxide (food grade) has a concentration of 35%. It has many health uses as explained below.

What Are the Uses of Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide?

Hydrogen peroxide is a very strong and natural disinfectant. As you use it, it eliminates toxins and other problems through oxidation. It’s a fantastic sanitizer which can be used to neutralize germs, bacteria and viruses. There are, however, more amazing benefits of Hydrogen peroxide (food grade).

In fact, food grade hydrogen peroxide can be used to treat sinus infections, cleanse sounds, get rid of parasites, end your toothache, detoxify the skin and body, and kill microbes that can cause disease.

Some people have found that it does even more than that. It can help keep your teeth clean when you use it to brush. Drinking it – well-diluted, of course – is believed to help fight or cure some cancers. Many alternative clinics actually inject it into the cancerous tissues, under the understanding that cancer cannot flourish in an environment filled with too much oxygen; and that’s exactly what you get when hydrogen peroxide breaks down.

Notes for Intake:

Remember that dilution is absolutely necessary in order to take it internally. Food grade Hydrogen peroxide is often shipped with a small dropper so you can count the drops that you put into water for dilution. Always use distilled water, and make sure that you start with 35% food grade hydrogen peroxide and dilute from there. Drinking hydrogen peroxide that is stronger than 10 percent can burn your tissues, leading to serious consequences, and even overdose.

Here are a few stories of success from the use of food grade hydrogen peroxide.

“I tried using the usual peroxide in the brown bottle, but it didn’t work for the insect bites I would get now and then. I changed to the 35%, diluted it according to directions, and found that it worked like a charm. It’s very important to dilute it, and always use the food grade – it is very different than the other stuff!”

“I’ve always had problems with gout, but the drugs I took for it made me sick. I was looking for an alternative. When I had a minor attack of pain from the gout, I tried three drops of food grade hydrogen peroxide three times a day, and sure enough, it worked. It never got severe. I really think this helped me. Remember to dilute it!”

Other Uses of Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide

  • Want to clean your fruits and vegetables? Combine 5 mL of 35% hydrogen peroxide into a bowl full of water and let them soak for 10 minutes, then dry them well. This gets rid of the microbes that can make you sick.
  • You can use a solution of up to three percent for brushing or rinsing your teeth after brushing.
  • When you get into the bathtub, add 250 mL of 35% hydrogen peroxide for a refreshing soak. Never exceed 1000 mL in a typical bath.

Finally, remember: Food grade hydrogen peroxide is not a miracle cure, no matter how many places might claim it is. But it does work well for many things in the house and for your health, so you should definitely consider it as a necessary item in your medicine cabinet.

Dilution Ratios

Dilution ratios for food grade hydrogen peroxide are good to know, so you can figure out exactly what you are getting. Here are a few examples.

  • To dilute to 3% hydrogen peroxide, you need 11 parts distilled water to one part 35% hydrogen peroxide.
  • To dilute to 6% hydrogen peroxide, you need 11 parts distilled water to two parts 35% hydrogen peroxide.

Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide Storage

Never freeze the bottle of hydrogen peroxide, and never let it get into contact with too much heat – the result is a quick decomposition of the solution. Keep it in a cool and dry place, such as underneath the sink. However, keep it out of the reach of children!
